LISTEN is an online journal and podcast platform that aims to highlight underrepresented voices from around the world, with a strong emphasis on gender equity. We aim to be at least 50% submission based as we feel this is the best way to hear directly from our community on their own terms.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for pieces that represent our community. As a largely visual platform we encourage photo sets, illustrations and video submissions along with longform writing between 1500-2000 words. Submissions are always open however once a quarter we will put a call out for specific topics we are looking to cover, please follow our social pages to stay updated.

 

PITCH AREAS 

  • First Person - These stories are told from your personal lens and can be submitted in any format, whether that be a personal essay, poem, self portraits or self filmed video.

  • Investigative/Gender Related Politics/Current Affairs - We want to hear from voices and communities that are not usually heard from in mainstream media. This can be issues facing your local community, broader impact pieces on topics you feel have been over looked or niche areas of interest that aren't spoken about on a broader scale. These pieces must be factual and provide references/citations when making any claims.

  • Culture - This is a broad spectrum of subjects including fashion, music, arts, lifestyle and travel. We will accept opinion pieces, photo sets, curated playlists, listicles etc. If you have an up and coming brand you would like to feature please contact us on contact@listen-journal.com.

  • Interviews - We welcome interviews with individuals or organisations that fit within our mission statement. This can be Q&A style, discussion based or video.

  • Illustrators - As a visual platform we are always looking for illustrators to create imagery for submission based work, if this is something that interests you please contact us at contact@listen-journal.com.

  • First person (self portrait photo series, vlog style or personal essay)

  • Op/ed pieces on current culture  & social trends (music, fashion, arts, lifestyle)

  • Poetry

  • Short film/documentary

  • Photo Stories

  • Illustrations, Comic Strips

  • Interviews, Q&A

  • Listicles (coffee shops, travel, food, organisations)
